The Kindy Kits project aims to reduce waste at school and promote sustainable options to young children and their parents.
The Kindy Kits project commenced in 2004. Since the Project began over 22,500 library bags have been given to kindergarten students.
Over 2,000 library bags containing information that promotes the message "No Waste in my Lunchbox" are distributed to kindergarten students across the REROC region during the first week of school each year.
The character Recycle Roo is used to promote the reduce, reuse, recycle message via a worksheet for the students, also included in the materials is a colourful brochure that gives parents valuable tips on how to reduce lunchbox waste.
The resource materials, are used to create in-class discussion on both environmental and waste issues. A letter is included in the library bag explaining the project and resource materials are also included for parents to encourage them to discuss these issues with their children.
Schools are now expecting the library bags and some are advising parents about the project during kindergarten orientation information.
Resource Materials for this project are: A5 Flyer: Lunchbox Tips; DL sized brochure: How to Reduce Waste at School and Home and Recycle Roo Colour in Sheet are available for use.
